For the
fourth year in a row, Seabury had one of the largest teams to participate in
the 2010 Bishop’s 5k for Kids in West Hartford, CT. As in the past, both
employees and residents participated by walking, jogging/running the three-mile
course. This year had special significance as resident Bishop Clarence
Coleridge joined “Team Seabury”.
Bishop
Coleridge, who has lived at Seabury for several years, founded the Bishop’s
Fund for Children in 1994, while he was presiding Bishop of Connecticut. From
this fund the 5k was created. It was heartwarming to not only have the Bishop
represent Seabury, but also to have him see how successful the event has become
over the years.
Speaking of
success, Team Seabury did quite well. The months of training with the fitness
and wellness specialists at Seabury paid off for several of the residents and
for one of the employees. All told, Seabury took home one bronze, two silvers,
and one gold award.
Seabury had
17 team members participate--10 residents and 7 employees. Seabury is proud to
have had such a strong showing this year, and it was noticed by all. A thank
you note from the Episcopal Diocese had this to say about our group: “Your involvement is certainly a spirit
filled witness to the extraordinary “life community” of Seabury.” We couldn’t
agree more, and look forward to even greater participation next year.
